Colonel Howard Nichols School

Colonel Nichols Elementary School is located on an 11-acre plot of land in Northeast Bakersfield, near Bakersfield College.  The school is named for Colonel Howard Nichols, a Colonel in the armed forces during World War II.  Colonel Nichols was a local contractor following the war.  He built many of the houses in the Nichols School area.  He donated the land for the school to Bakersfield City School District.  The school opened in 1961.  Colonel Nichols often attended performances by Nichols School children.

 Mission Statement

Nichols' mission is to provide a positive and effective integrated learning envirionment.  This will give students successful experiences that promote high achievement and will create respect and appreciation for self and others.  We want our students to be life-long learners, possessing the skills, knowledge, creativity, sense of self worth and citizenship necessary to funtion productively in the 21st century.
